The UHNT rainbow garden in full Bloom

What began in 2022 as a vision supported by the University Hospital of North Tees (UHNT) 100 Leaders project and charitable funding has blossomed into the vibrant Rainbow Garden – an outdoor seating area at the hospital for colleagues and visitors alike.

Nicola and Bozena from the NTH Solutions Catering team have nurtured the space, keeping plants watered and tidied year after year. Thanks to their hard work and a successful bid for additional funds, the garden now includes parasols, water features, and ornaments. We’re also grateful to the NTH Solutions gardeners, whose efforts in cleaning up the area and supplying fresh plants has certainly helped the garden thrive.

A special thank you goes to local housing association, Thirteen Group and its colleagues (pictured) for their generous donations of plants and equipment, and for giving the planters a bright, cheerful makeover with a fresh coat of paint this week.

The space has also evolved into a vibrant venue for hospital-led events, most recently hosting the Health & Wellbeing Festival, where a range of local businesses joined us to showcase their services and connect with our colleagues.

Nicola, our Retail Team Leader, shared: “It’s great to see everyone using the area during the nice weather and I get great feedback that our colleagues look forward to sitting out there after working inside wards and departments.”
