Karen Archer
Interim Assistant Director, Capital and Property
As a Chartered Surveyor with over 20 years of experience working within the public and private sectors throughout the North of England as both a Consultant and client-side, Karen leads all capital planning and property activity for NTH Solutions, on behalf of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust. She acts as a strategic advisor to the Trust’s Executive Team and Capital Revenue Management Group on the prioritisation of capital and property proposals across our hospital and community sites in line with national and local objectives, which are often competing for limited resources, and Chairs our Capital Programme Management Group.
A key part of Karen’s role is working alongside the Group’s Director of Estates in the production of a property and estates strategy, associated annual capital programme and a five-year capital plan, and the practical capability to deliver our property projects to time and budget. She leads the Trust’s property management service, including landlord and tenant matters, acquisition and granting of occupancy arrangements, rent assessment and reviews, service charge oversight, asset valuation, acquisition and disposals, estates utilisation, value for money and options appraisals. She was instrumental in the delivery of the Tees Valley Community Diagnostic Centre in Stockton-on-Tees which opened in April 2025, a service that will benefit residents of North Yorkshire and Teesside for years to come.
Prior to joining NTH Solutions, Karen worked for the UK Government in both the Valuation Office Agency (part of HMRC) and the Department of Health and Social Care, the latter being during the Covid-19 pandemic where she was part of the emergency response team across the North East, Yorkshire and Humberside region focused on the provision of mobile testing. Here, she was the link between the local authority resilience teams and Central Government. At the Valuation Office Agency she specialised in the health sector which included the provision of specialist valuation advice for groups including hospital trusts and NHS commissioning boards, advising on all matters relating to Value for Money (VFM) including the relocation and refurbishment of Primary Care premises.
Karen has a degree in Urban Property Surveying and has been a professional member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) since 2002. The early part of her career was spent working for national and regional property consultants providing advice to clients in terms of disposals and acquisitions across a number of commercial sectors. but with particular focus on industrial and warehousing. She then moved client-side and worked for one of the UK’s most successful property investment and development companies acquiring, developing and managing its North East and Scotland property portfolio.
