Ian joined the Army in 1979 as a Junior Soldier and first trained as a Medical and then Environmental Health Technician. After 17 years as a Soldier, he was commissioned as a Medical Support Officer. After 38 years in the Army, and having served in Africa, the Middle East, the former Yugoslavia, Hong Kong, Cyprus and the US, in 2014 he was awarded an MBE.
Since retiring from the Forces as a Colonel, Ian has done a great deal of charity work with veteran organisations, and continues to do so. He became a Governor of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust in 2017, before becoming a Trust Non-Executive Director (NED) in 2020. He was appointed Chair of the Trust’s subsidiary companies (NTH Solutions LLP and Optimus Health Ltd) in 2023.
A proud father and grandfather, Ian has been married to Pam for 43 years.
