Comprehensive Sterile Services Across the Trust
The NTH Solutions Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) provides sterilisation and disinfection services to all theatres, wards and departments within the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust, and also provides a service of sterilised items for the community unit, general practices and external customers.
Specialist Endoscope Processing Facilities
CSSD at North Tees has a centralised Endoscope processing facility supplying endoscopes to a variety of internal customers. CSSD staff also operates the Endoscope Decontamination Unit (EDU) at Hartlepool.
High-Volume Instrument Processing
The primary customers on both sites are operating theatres and Day Case Units, which accounts for 85% of the workload, processing annually 65,000 theatre trays, and 52,000 supplementary instruments (approximately 1.5 million instruments). These figures are expected to increase year on year as patient throughput grows.
We are currently processing approximately 2,000 endoscopes per month. This is due to the Trust being the regional centre for the Bowel Scope Project.
Supporting Safety with Every Wrap
We use approx
10,000 metres
of tray wrap per month to wrap to keep the trays protected and sterile.
Sterile Services for External Clients
